The interesting thing about what Mr. Sutherland said about Matthew 18 is false. Matthew 18 is about what happens when a brother sins against you.
Unless Mr. Sutherland believes that something sinful occurred (other than the valid criticism), the deacon he was referring to had no obligation to talk privately. Would it have been polite, yes, but it was probably wiser to go public from the beginning.
In my experience at least, you can't deal one-on-one with people who believe it is their right to innovate on how to "do church." All they do is poison the well against you and make sure you get out of power.

Mr. Sutherland clearly was going to do all he could to make the deacon look bad and resorted to manipulative tactics, "If you do this than I am resigning today..." to get what he wanted. Such a person clearly is not following God but his own desires. Thank you Chris for exposing these wolves and to follow Christ instead, even if it is unpopular.

listening to mr sutherland calmly instruct others in how to take over churches was chilling. it makes me feel sick inside. where is the outcry? where are the Godly men?
come to think of it he sounded like a dictator.
